I absolutely agree Jeremy! Your experience mirrors mine exactly. As soon as I heard about all of this I put it into practice in about the same timeframe. It took some tinkering with, but it is consistently generating leads for us, and we are making great connections with alot of people (like you!) throughout the Detroit area, and quite frankly around the globe! The power of social media is amazing, and if you aren't on board, you need to get on board...we've dedicated a few blog posts to social media. Specifically for facebook, check out this post that explains everything we're currently doing.

Jeremy is spot on with this. One of my favorite quotes from guru Mike Litman is "Don't get it right, just get it going". You don't need everything perfect to get going. It's all about focused action.

A great website talking about social media is Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary talks about facebook, twitter, blogging, etc. and he emulates your thoughts on connecting with people. It's not about the number of followers you have it's about the quality of the conversations you are having. Focus on this and you cannot go wrong. It has been working for me...

Jeremy,

You are right on the nose with your observations on goals. Making goals and adhering to going after them has been a lifelong struggle for me. There always seems to be something more urgent to get in the way of taking the time to make goals, review them, make plans to accomplish them and then execute on those plans. There will always be those nagging things that need to get done NOW, but we need to learn how to push those aside on a daily basis, if only for 20-30 minutes, to do the important things that will really help our businesses soar! As Steven Covey is always so fond of saying (and I paraphrase), focusing on the Important, but Not Urgent things in your life helps you to produce the results that give you a better quality of life. Goal setting, planning, and preparation all fall into this area and help you to build a strong foundation for your life's work.

Great meeting the other night! Good to see the gang.

Good point Drew. As with any city there are expanding and shrinking areas. With Detroit the shrinking part is just that much more pronounced with the population decline. Also check out the post I made about the vacant houses in Detroit.
